Keeping a sleep diary is often the first thing a sleep specialist will tell you to do and it can be an incredibly valuable tool, whether you’re tackling your sleep problems yourself or seeking professional help.

All you have to do is answer a series of basic questions like what time you went to bed, how long it took you to fall asleep, how long you were awake overnight, what time you woke up, etc. 

And you might be thinking, "Shouldn’t I use a sleep tracker for that?" The answer, for now at least, is no.

The sleep diary is designed to to focus only the info that’s going to help you right now.

After 1–2 weeks you should start to see patterns that help indicate what's causing your sleep problems, and will help you choose the best solutions to fix them.

I struggled with sleep for years. But as a mom and news anchor with a busy schedule, I just thought that this was inevitable and that I'm just a "bad sleeper." 
Eventually my sleep got so bad that I couldn't ignore it anymore, so I tried conventional advice and even sleeping pills. Nothing provided relief.
But instead of losing hope, I used my experience as a journalist to dig into research and consult with experts and patients all across sleep science. Together they helped me identify evidence-based solutions, separate fact from fiction, create actionable fixes that really work.
And these aren't things that worked just for me. These are techniques rooted in science, shown to be effective, and adapted to be practical enough to fit into our real-world, everyday lives.
The results, speak for themselves.
